Live UK fuel prices, straight from the source

Since the government's Fuel Finder scheme came in, every petrol station in the UK has to report its prices within 30 minutes of changing them. We pull that official feed every 15 minutes, so the prices you see here are the ones on the forecourt sign, not a week-old snapshot from a driver's app.

Search any postcode to compare standard unleaded (E10), super unleaded (E5) and diesel (B7) at the stations around you, see how each station's price has moved recently, and narrow the list to stations that are open now, sell AdBlue, have water, or are supermarkets.

Prices can swing by 20p a litre or more between towns just twenty miles apart, and every 10p a litre adds £5 to a 50-litre fill-up. Our analysis of 7,100+ stations found that motorway services are the single biggest reason some stations charge far more than others.

5 ways to use less fuel

Finding the cheapest station is half the job. Driving a little more efficiently saves money on every mile after that:

  1. 1. Check your tyre pressures

Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance, so the engine works harder on every journey. Check them monthly against the figures in your handbook or door frame, and keep in mind that tyre condition is also one of the most common MOT failures.

  2. 2. Drive smoothly and look ahead

Harsh acceleration and late braking waste fuel. Reading the road ahead and easing off early lets the car coast instead of burning fuel only to brake it away.

  3. 3. Ease off on the motorway

Air resistance climbs steeply with speed, so cruising at 70mph rather than 80mph uses noticeably less fuel. Changing up a gear early and using cruise control on steady roads help too.

  4. 4. Lose the extra weight and drag

Take off empty roof boxes and bike racks when you're not using them, and clear heavy clutter out of the boot. Both make the engine work harder for nothing.

  5. 5. Plan your fill-ups

Avoid filling up at motorway services unless you have to, and check prices before you set off. Search your postcode above and set a free price alert to hear when a station you pass regularly drops its price.

Fuel price questions

Every 15 minutes. Our prices come from the government's Fuel Finder scheme, which requires UK petrol stations to report any price change within 30 minutes of making it. We check the feed every 15 minutes, so a new price usually shows here well within the hour.

E10 is standard unleaded petrol, containing up to 10% renewable ethanol. E5 is super unleaded, with up to 5% ethanol, and is what you need if your car isn't E10-compatible (most petrol cars can use E10 — you can check yours on GOV.UK). B7 is standard diesel, with up to 7% biodiesel.

Brand, local competition and remoteness all play a part, but when we modelled prices at over 7,100 stations in Great Britain, one factor beat them all: whether the station is on a motorway. Read the full analysis in why some petrol stations charge more.

Mostly the wholesale cost of refined petrol and diesel, which follows global oil markets. Because fuel is traded in US dollars, a weaker pound pushes prices up too. On top of that come fuel duty (a fixed amount per litre) and 20% VAT, which is charged on the duty as well as the fuel. Retailers then set their own margins, which is why pump prices react to wholesale changes with a delay, and why local competition matters so much.

Search your area, choose the stations you use, and tell us whether you want to hear about price drops, price rises or a target price. We check every price change as it arrives and email you when one of your stations hits your trigger. Alerts are free and you can unsubscribe at any time.
