Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the MOT predictor and fuel finder.

We analyse millions of real MOT test records from the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency). By comparing your car's make, model, generation and mileage against historical test results for the same type of vehicle, we calculate the statistical probability of it passing its next MOT test — and highlight the components most likely to cause a problem.

The percentage shown reflects how frequently vehicles of the same make, model, generation and mileage range have historically passed or failed. It is a statistical estimate based on real data, not a guarantee. Individual results vary depending on your car's actual condition and service history, but it gives you a strong evidence-based starting point.

Yes, the MOT predictor is completely free. It is funded by data partnerships — when you use the service, you consent to your email address and vehicle registration being shared with selected automotive partners such as warranty providers, insurers and garages. You can opt out of marketing at any time by emailing gdpr-opt-out@hopeitpasses.com.

We cover the vast majority of UK-registered cars with an MOT history in the DVSA database. Motorcycles and light commercial vehicles are not yet supported. If your registration is not found, it may be a very recently registered car, a vehicle that has been SORNed, or one not yet in our dataset.

The Car Care Score is a rating from 0–10 reflecting how well a vehicle has been maintained. It is calculated from the frequency and severity of MOT defects, advisory notices and pass rates across the car's full history. A higher score means fewer issues and more consistent upkeep — useful when buying or selling a used car.

We collect live fuel price data from over 8,000 petrol stations across the UK. Enter your postcode or allow location access to see the cheapest petrol (E10) and diesel (B7) near you. You can also set a price drop alert to be notified by email when prices fall at your chosen stations.
